Course Notes for the Fall 2020

Make certain that you communicate with your instructor often.  Remember that email is not "instant", so there may be some delay in a response.  Most of the time responses to questions and the orientation elements will be the same day.  When you submit an assignment, it will usually be several days before it is posted on your personal evaluation page although some items are graded automatically.  If you are nervous about whether an assignment has been received, send the instructor a message.

There are many ways to contact Professor Tureman, but email sent to rtureman@pdc.edu is by far the best way.  The office phone is (757)-925-6329 with voice mail available.  Please be aware I do not come to campus many days, but I do check the email several times every day, even if I am not in Suffolk. I may also be getting a different office phone, which will make me more accessible via that method.

The course orientation is completely online.  The exams are also online unless otherwise stated.  I will administer the test on dates stated in the course outline (or the ASSIGNMENTS portion of the Canvas site) during the stated weeks of the class schedule via CANVAS.  You can log onto CANVAS on the test dates and take your test.  A password will usually prevent you from accidentally choosing the exam.  Most exams can be taken only once.

You must use Microsoft Word to create word processing documents for this course.  In addition, you should know how to place files in a folder, ZIP them together, and send that zipped folder as an attachment. All projects have been modified so that no paper copies of anything will be acceptable unless otherwise stated.  If the project you are working on has a submission form, you must use that form and no other submission method is allowed.  For those projects, it is suggested that you create a WORD document and copy and paste to the submission form.

Even though no live instructional sessions are mandatory in an online course, there is time set aside for your course when the instructor will be available.  Most of these sessions are open, free format time where you can get help, meet the instructor, or simply say "Hi".  A list of specific times will be available and posted shortly.

The Suffolk lab phone is (757)-925-6318. Franklin lab phone is (757)-569-6788. You may be able to get help at that number if you need it. You can email me, and I will check email throughout the day.  Office hours may change if my schedule changes. Please email me (don't just leave a voice mail message) if you really need to get in touch with me.
